With splendid views from its position on the edge of the biggest extinct volcano in Lazio, Rocca di Papa is a holiday resort that still has its ancient urban features, and in fact it is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the area which maintains an absolu- tely fascinating atmosphere of the past. Very interesting is the Roman paving of the Sacred Way (Via Sacra) leading up to Mount Cavo, from which one can enjoy a stupendous view of the two lakes of Albano and Nemi. The church of the Assunta, rebuilt in the 19th century, and the ancient convent of Santa Maria in Palazzolo are of great historical Interest.
